I know what you mean by the disjointed -- but she was so much larger than life in the making, having her blend with a background would have been insulting to her form.
I had to alter the background to match her this time -- I wanted it to have a smoother appearance to match her smoother lines and texturing.
I went through such gyrations to make the older star field fit, since I liked it's colors but I found this one of the seven sisters in my collection and applied a focused gradient smoothing to the dust around the main stars -- leaving the main stars untouched so their clarity would show through. Was also careful not to disturb the fainter stars from the outer area. I did adjust the black level of the whole background, as it was too bright and would have washed the foreground figure out (talk about over blending!). I really wanted her to stand out from the background.
The galaxies were a full 26-50 Meg images by themselves that were scaled down, rotated and distorted to give them the
perspective of point toward her to give a framing effect.
At one point the overall file size was about 287mb. Ouch!
I prefer that she stand out than blend in, given that the piece was about her and not the background. She started as a
15,000px high figure. I certainly didn't want her to blend in too much!
